Hi! I’m Brian Ho, a senior majoring in Computer Science at George Mason University. I like building small, fun games in my free time. Outside of coding I’m usually gaming, watching sports, or hanging out with friends.

About the game

MiniEscape is a small 2D pixel platformer where you play as a tiny Viking trying to reach a door high above the ground. There are no enemies—just careful jumps, simple controls, and a short “climb” that feels like a mini obstacle course.

The level is built out of three vertical “lanes” of platforms. You move left and right between columns and time your jumps to slowly work your way upward. Reach the door at the top to escape and win the game.

Key Features & Innovations

  • Simple, focused platforming: One short level designed around precision jumps and timing rather than combat.

  • Three-column layout: Platforms are arranged in three vertical columns, forcing you to plan your path as you climb.

  • Clean win condition: Touching the door at the top triggers a dedicated win screen with a “You Escaped!” message and restart/menu options.

  • Fall & restart logic: A GameManager watches the player’s height—fall too far or hit the bottom and the level instantly restarts.

  • Pause & restart controls:

    • Esc to pause/unpause

    • R to restart the level at any time

  • Jump sound effect: A short jump SFX plays each time you press Space, giving satisfying audio feedback for every leap.

  • Built in Unity: Uses a custom level-builder script to place platforms and the door, plus a lightweight 2D character controller with gravity, ground checking, and sprite flipping.
